Jerry DeWitt

August 25, 2012

Here is a New York Times Magazine feature about Jerry DeWitt, a former Pentecostal preacher who recently came out as an atheist and became the leader of Recovering from Religion. Twice this year, I’ve had the pleasure of listening to him speak and visiting with him in person. He has retained all the qualities of a great minister (compassion, openness, ease with people, rousing oratory, folksy Southern accent) while eschewing the superstition. He may be my favorite atheist.
